Dear Colleagues,
This week marks the completion of my first quarter as the Technical Editor of the Journal of The Electrochemical Society in Fuel Cells, Electrolyzers, and Energy Conversion. I feel incredibly grateful to the authors and reviewers (listed below) who contributed to the papers published in our journal. I also would like to thank Associate Editors, Professors Ray Gorte, Minhua Shao, and Thomas Schmidt, for their diligent service.
Out of five interesting papers this week, I would like to draw your attention to the following ones:
Capturing CO2 while producing electricity. A comprehensive and nicely performed study by a collaborative team between the ExxonMobil Research and Engineering and FuelCell Energy Inc. on achieving ~ 90% CO2 capture using dilute CO2 feeds, while producing 1000 W/m2 electricity by employing a molten carbonate fuel cell. The hypothesis was that there exists dual ion (OH- and CO32-) transport at these conditions, which, if valid, is of significant scientific interest, particularly on the high-efficiency capture from a dilute flue gas with a few percent CO2. Catalysts in PEM H2O electrolysis. A research paper providing experimental and theoretical insights on the synergistic behavior between the porous transport layer and catalyst layer in polymer electrolyte membrane devices for water electrolysis. The highest performance may only be achieved through an optimization of both porous layer (grain size and porosity) and catalyst layer (catalyst loading).
